Teaching Style

Ever wondered what Vinyasa actually means? Ever looked at a class schedule and wondered what style of Yoga you’re actually participating in? Or perhaps you’re new to all of this and didn’t even know that there were different styles of Yoga? Well, there are, and the style that Carrie predominantly teaches, is Vinyasa Flow.

Vinyasa Description

Vinyasa is a Sanskrit word; Nyasa means, ‘to place’ and Vi means ‘in a special or distinct way’. Thus, Vinyasa means ‘to place something in a special way.’

Moving through a vinyasa yoga class requires us to have awareness, mindfulness, and focus between one moment and the next.

Vinyasa shows us that all postures are impermanent, and forever changing and they cannot possibly be held onto. There is a beginning, middle and an end to each pose. With this idea, we can release our attachment towards how the pose “should look” and what the outcome “should be”. Each class is carefully thought out with the beginning, middle and an end in mind. The class is carefully crafted to prepare the body and mind towards a peak pose. Whether you do the full expression of the pose or not, it doesn’t matter, it’s the journey that truly counts.

I encourage you to be with the challenges as they arise and ride the wave with as much acceptance, gratitude, strength and grace as possible in the moment.

Classes have a strong focus on breath, alignment, safety, and modifications. Classes are generally suitable for all students and levels. Yoga is all about union and joining together in community. This sense of union, or non-separation with ourselves, with each other, and with all that is around us.
